A land that produces special wines

Mandrolisai land of wine

Our wines are produced in the land around Atzara, an ancient village at the centre of Sardinia, in the hilly territory of Mandrolisai. A land that has always been given over to wine production thanks to its particular climatic and geographical characteristics, involving poor rainfall and a long summer, resulting in very special wines.

The region encompasses the Gennargentu mountain range, with its peaks of up to 1800 metres above sea level which dwarf the hills of the Mandrolisai, bringing a fresh breeze to our hot summer. Oaks, holm oaks, orchards and Mediterranean scrub perfume the air before it finally reaches our vineyards.

These are places that have been home to human settlement since time immemorial; for example with the Biru ' and Concas complex, in the territory of Sorgono, built between 3300-2700 BC and 2700-1700 BC and home to some of the most impressive menhirs in the Mediterranean. Here we are far from the tourist crowds, in an unspoilt territory with immense environmental value, where life moves slowly. Our communities still share a rich and authentic bond of popular culture, linked to agriculture and especially wine-growing.

This has enabled us to avoid the development of industry in this area, making it possible to preserve a rural landscape with great biodiversity, including small-scale farming of cereals, vegetable and orchard fruits. The vineyards are scattered throughout this rich tapestry, surrounded by dry stone walls or hedges, and making up less than 20% of the whole.

This is why it has been possible to develop local policies aimed at the protection of the environmental and historical heritage, in line with the expectations of citizens and new demands of tourism. Indeed, the Minister for Culture made mention of our Longevitas project, originating from Atzara municipal council, in the National Landscape Prize Awards of March 14th, 2021.

Mandrolisai - Terroir and wine

Atzara is at the centre of the island, in the province of Nuoro, in a territory surrounded by wild nature, rich in forests and Mediterranean maquis.

Here, thanks to a special microclimate, the vineyards produce Mandrolisai - a unique wine full of flavour that gives full expression to our land.
